More about us and the Sacro Occipital Technique

At Grayshott Chiropractic Clinic our goals are to:

  • Provide relief from symptoms (which can be immediate)
  • Reduce pain and swelling
  • Promote range of joint movement
  • Improve mobility
  • Assist in rehabilitation after surgery
  • Educate on how you can improve your quality of life through diet and nutritional support, posture, and exercise.

Our overall aim is to restore the natural flow of the nervous system to allow the entire body to repair and heal itself allowing you to get on and enjoy your life.

The book The Body Machine points out:

"The human organism, controlled and co-ordinated by the central nervous system, is a sophisticated sensory apparatus, a self-regulating mobile engine, a self-reproducing computer — a marvellous and in many ways mysterious creation."

Katherine Taylor DC – Chiropractor

Katherine has been in practice since 2002 after completing extensive studies and training, obtaining a BSc in sports studies and health as well as qualifying with an MSc in chiropractic. She has a true passion and in-depth understanding of the body to help you get back to optimum health as quickly as possible. Sometimes one or two treatments are all you need to recover.

As a keen sportswoman, Katherine competed at a high level in several sports and has a keen interest in treating injuries.

She is committed to updating her knowledge by attending regular post graduate training and is registered with the General Chiropractic Council as well as being a member of the British Chiropractic Association.

Katherine worked at "Hands-on-Health" Chiropractic Clinic in Runfold, Surrey for 18 months after qualifying before setting up Grayshott Chiropractic Clinic in 2004

A special interest in treating the whole person has led Katherine to train in sacro occipital technique (SOT) as well as her continued professional development in chiropractic and other disciplines.

What is Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT)?

SOT (Sacro Occipital Technique) is a system of chiropractic originally developed by Dr Major de Jarnette and is best known for cranial work but also involves detailed analysis and corrections for the pelvis, extremities and internal organs. SOT provides a holistic approach to chiropractic healthcare from a long-term, ongoing well-being perspective.

It is called SOT because of the all important relationship between the sacrum (base of the spine) and the occiput (base of the skull). The sacrum pumps cerebro-spinal fluid (CSF) from the base of the spine back up the spinal canal to the brain and throughout the nervous system. CSF acts as the circulatory system of the brain and spinal cord. The pelvis supports the whole human skeleton by supporting the upper body all the way up to the skull and enables us to transfer our weight to our legs.

Many people have imbalances due to bad posture caused by the modern society that we live in, e.g. spending hours in front of the television or computer screen without a break to limber up, even standing up for long periods at work, maybe carrying heavy objects without thinking about correct lifting technique. The spine holds our body upright and supports our organs and provides anchor points for our muscles. In addition it protects our nervous system against damage from injuries, accidents and traumas. The nervous system can only function normally when our structures are balanced and our pelvis is stable.

SOT chiropractic care is performed entirely to create optimum health within your body and care is taken to make sure you recover as quickly as possible saving you time and money and more importantly getting you back on your feet to enjoy life.
